SAN ANTONIO – Bexar County Judge Peter Sakai is hosting a food distribution event today to help families experiencing food insecurity as the ongoing government shutdown continues to affect SNAP benefits across the country.
The distribution will take place from 9-11 a.m. in the parking lot at the Freeman Coliseum grounds, behind the rodeo barns.
Judge Sakai is partnering with the San Antonio Food Bank to provide relief to those struggling to feed their families. The U.S. Department of Agriculture, which oversees the SNAP program, had initially planned to freeze payments starting November 1.
