Greene County court orders $60K restitution in roofing scam

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. — The owners of a roofing business called LoveOurRoof, which was part of Xcel Roofing of Kansas City, have been ordered by the Greene County Circuit Court to pay $60,000 in restitution for defrauding customers in Greene County out of thousands of dollars.

The Missouri Attorney General’s Office says on Oct. 31, a Greene County judge ordered owner James Harding and Xcel Roofing to pay $40,000 in restitution to nine customers who did not receive the company’s services after paying for them.

The co-owner, Matthew Priester, was ordered to pay $20,000 in restitution in the same fraud case in January, bringing the total amount of restitution to $60,000.

The fraud scheme involved homeowners making large advance payments from 2018 to 2021 to LoveOurRoof for roof repairs and replacements, according to the Attorney General’s Office.
