United Way, community help workers at Wichita airport amid shutdown

WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) — Wichita’s Eisenhower National Airport said there has been an outpouring of community support for workers there in the wake of the ongoing government shutdown.

The airport said it established a food donation spot next to the Aviators Market in the terminal last week to support airport workers affected by the shutdown. It said what started off as a few employees and community members dropping off food, toiletries and baby items quickly grew.

When supplies ran low, the airport said the United Way of the Plains arrived with three SUVs filled with supplies. Not long after, a local couple arrived with an SUV full of donations.

The United Way is also hosting a drive-up community food drive. The drive will take place on Friday from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the United Way of the Plains, located at 245 N. Water in downtown Wichita…
