BCSO: APD officer found dead by apparent suicide after domestic violence accusations

CEDAR CREST, N.M. – Bernalillo County Sheriff’s deputies found an Albuquerque police officer dead by suicide, while investigating him as a suspect in a domestic violence case.

Albuquerque police named the officer as Dominic Castro. Police say he started his career with APD in July 2023.

The incident began the morning of Nov. 5 when school staff in the East Mountains notified BCSO about a woman and her child who fled to safety after escaping a domestic violence situation.

Arrest warrant and death

BCSO detectives say they obtained an arrest warrant Wednesday for Castro. Authorities planned to arrest the suspect on charges including kidnapping, criminal sexual penetration, false imprisonment, interference with communication, battery on a household member and child abuse.

Later that evening, BCSO responded to Castro’s residence on Piñon Trail in Cedar Crest. Deputies say they asked him multiple times to come out of the residence…
