Plans for a traffic light were already underway before the deadly hit-and-run near the UofA

City of Tucson officials say that traffic safety improvements have been in the works since 2023, for the intersection of Euclid and 2nd Street where the fatal hit-and-run collision took the lives of three University of Arizona students last week.

Erica Frazelle with the Department of Transportation and Mobility said this specific intersection is one of six locations that will get signalized pedestrian crossings with red, yellow and green symbols for incoming traffic.

Additional improvements to the intersection include a connection to a future 2nd Street Bicycle Boulevard, separate bicycle and pedestrian crossing paths for east and west travel with a dedicated stop signal, turn restrictions and south to east turns for access to the 2nd Street parking garage on the UA campus…
