Akron-Canton Regional Foodbank extends hours, seeks help amid SNAP disruption

AKRON, Ohio – As the Akron-Canton Regional Foodbank kicks off its annual Holiday Campaign, it is making changes and asking community members for support.

To help meet the needs of local families, the foodbank has extended its pantry hours–including adding evening and weekend hours. It will also host pop-up pantries throughout the region and coordinate volunteer support for food programs in its network, according to a news release.

The changes come as the foodbank tries to navigate a 36% decrease in government support, according to the release. At the same time, the demand for food has increased due to some federal workers not receiving pay and disruptions to the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) caused by the government shutdown…
