Peloton Issues Second Recall for Bike Seat Post Issues, Affecting 833,000 Original Bike+ Models

Peloton is once again facing a recall for its exercise bikes, this time impacting 833,000 units of its original Bike+ model. The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) announced Thursday that the recall follows reports of seat posts breaking and detaching during use, leading to two reported injuries.

The recall covers every original Bike+ manufactured between 2019 and 2022, which were sold from January 2020 through April 2025. While sales continued into 2025, Peloton ceased manufacturing these units in 2022. The CPSC stated that Peloton received three reports regarding the issue, with two of those resulting in falls and injuries.

Consumers are urged to immediately stop using the affected bikes and contact Peloton for a free replacement seat post. The company is providing a new part that users can install themselves at home. In a statement, Peloton emphasized that “The integrity of our products and our Members’ well-being are our top priorities” and encouraged members to request the new part promptly.

This marks the second time Peloton has had to recall a bike model due to faulty seat posts. In May 2023, the company recalled all 2.2 million units of its base Bike model after 35 reports of seat post detachment, which resulted in 13 injuries, including a fractured wrist and various lacerations. That previous recall significantly impacted Peloton’s finances, costing at least $40 million in its fiscal 2023 fourth quarter and contributing to higher-than-expected membership churn as 15,000 to 20,000 subscribers paused their memberships.

This latest recall is the fifth in Peloton’s history, a company that has faced numerous challenges since its inception. Beyond changing consumer habits post-pandemic, the fitness giant has grappled with significant product safety issues, including a 2021 recall of its Tread+ treadmill after a child’s death.

The news comes as CEO Peter Stern works to revitalize the company and steer it towards growth. Just over a month ago, Peloton relaunched its product line, adjusted prices, and introduced new features in anticipation of the crucial holiday shopping season, which typically represents the company’s strongest quarter for hardware sales. Peloton is expected to report its fiscal first-quarter 2026 earnings later today.
