WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — The government shutdown put a pause on SNAP benefits, impacting at least 41 million Americans. In North Carolina, the pause impacts 1.4 million people. 2 Wants To Know asked for data to show who in our community is being impacted.
In the Triad’s second-largest county, Forsyth, about 57,000 people get SNAP benefits. Here’s a look at the breakdown by age group according to the county’s DHHS:
Participant counts by age range are as follows:
- 0-5 years old – 9,083
- 6 to 17 years – 17,980
- 18-49 years – 18,067
- 50-64 years – 6,460
- 65 and above – 5,200
