Nov. 6 (UPI) — A jury awarded $10 million Thursday to former teacher Abigail Zwerner, who was shot by a first-grader after a school official ignored warnings that the student had a gun.
Zwerner sought $40 million for gross negligence of a school assistant principal Ebony Parker after the 6-year-old student shot her in a Jan. 6, 2023, classroom incident.
The jury of three men and four women sided with Zwerner after deliberating for four hours, NBC News reported.
“I remember just three years ago, almost to this date, hearing for the first time Abby’s story and thinking that this could have been prevented,” Zwerner attorney Diane Toscona told reporters…
