On November 6, 2025, the Florida Department of Education and Volunteer Florida announced the start of the 2025 Native American Heritage Month student art and essay contests. This year’s theme is “Celebrating Florida’s Native American Heritage.” The contests aim to encourage students to learn about the contributions of Native Americans in Florida’s history. The announcement took place in Tallahassee. State officials noted the importance of recognizing Native American achievements and culture during November, which is observed as Native American Heritage Month across the country.
Commissioner of Education Anastasios Kamoutsas said the contests provide students with opportunities to learn about Florida’s Native American history. He invited all students to participate. Volunteer Florida CEO Josie Tamayo also spoke about the value of Native American culture in Florida and the United States. She highlighted the importance of recognizing their contributions during this month.
The contests are open to all Florida students. Students in grades K-3 can enter an art contest by submitting original, two-dimensional artwork based on the theme. Four winners will be selected. Each will receive a $200 gift card for school supplies and a one-year pass to Florida State Parks…
