Leaf pickup started in the 1960s in Lane County as a flood control measure to prevent leaves from clogging storm drains. The program continues to this day to manage the area’s leaf debris, keep decaying leaves out of local waterways and prevent cyclists from slipping on slimy leaves in bike lanes.
Here’s how you can make sure leaves get to the right place at the right time.

The city asks that leaves be collected in piles and placed in the street next to the curb, as long as they do not block a bike lane or are placed between parked cars. Leaves do not need to be bagged for collection. Residents have two weekend days to get their leaves out in each zone. Pickup begins the Monday following.
