Las Vegas food distributions during shutdown mirror pandemic response

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — Some Nevadans received a partial payment of their SNAP benefits on Wednesday. The state said about 200,000 people had less than half of their normal benefits loaded onto their EBT cards, but thousands of recipients didn’t receive any benefits.

The community is coming together to help. The Just One Project, near Decatur and Vegas Drive, is holding another emergency food distribution. Leadership said the first person showed up at 4 a.m. on Wednesday, looking for food.

According to CEO Brooke Neubauer, the rising demand required an evolution in their approach. On Wednesday, the non-profit organization ramped up its operations to mimic the protocols it followed during the pandemic.

“Yesterday, we were set up in the back. We had lines wrapped around the block,” CEO Brooke Neubauer said. “It reminded us of COVID, and we just thought, ‘okay, how do we keep up with this demand?’”…
