Food pantries seeing record demand and donations

HASLETT, Mich. (WLNS) – As confusion around snap benefits continues, food pantries of all sizes are seeing more demand, but also more donations.

The Federal Government shutdown is officially the longest in history, reaching 36 days. During this time, the USDA paused SNAP program benefits. After a court ruling said otherwise, though, people are confused.

1.4 million people in Michigan receive SNAP benefits. The State said on Wednesday that SNAP recipients will get 50% of their benefits starting Saturday. With all of the changes and confusion, people are relying on food pantries, both big and small…
