A Morgan City man who represented himself during a murder trial was sentenced to life in prison.
Alvin Fitch was sentenced to life in prison for the second-degree murder of Jake Menard of Lafayette. Fitch was found guilty Dec. 13 after a four-day-trial in which he represented himself against Prosecutor Patti Floyd in Judge Randall Bethancourt’s Houma Courtroom.
Representing Fitch during his sentencing, Defense Attorney Mariah Jackson argued for a retrial. She had represented him previously, but he dismissed her before the trial. He dismissed three attorneys throughout the lead up to his trial. Jackson argued that there was video evidence that Fitch was denied that could have helped his case…
