Man acquitted of attempted murder, convicted of lesser count in Goddard Walmart shooting

WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) — A Sedgwick County jury on Friday acquitted a man of the most serious charge in a shooting that left a teen paralyzed.

Ruben Contreras was found not guilty of attempted first-degree murder but guilty of aggravated battery.

The case stems from a shooting that happened on May 11, 2024, outside the Walmart in Goddard.
