10 Eugene restaurants helping feed the community during shutdown

Despite a judge’s order to find funds for the country’s Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, benefits have not been distributed this month to the tens of millions of Americans who rely on the program.

As the government shutdown became the longest in history, the 75,000 people in Lane County who normally receive SNAP are left wondering how they will feed their families.

Local businesses, nonprofits, and individuals have rallied to keep their own communities fed. Restaurants around Eugene are vowing to help feed their neighbors who are losing access to SNAP benefits in different ways. Some are providing free meals and others are doing buy-one-give-one deals.
