San Joaquin County bailing out Stockton rescue mission with $1.5 million for new facility

San Joaquin County has come to the rescue of a rescue mission.

The Board of Supervisors voted unanimously this week to spend $1.5 million to complete a new facility under construction at the Gospel Center Rescue Mission after its financing deal fell apart. The Christian-based nonprofit offers programs to try to reintegrate people experiencing homelessness back into society and help addicts recover.

It marks the second time the board has contributed to the New Life Program Multipurpose Center at the Stockton mission. The board voted to contribute $2 million in 2021, bringing its total to $3.5 million…
