AMARILLO (KVII) — Longtime state Rep. John Smithee, who has served in Austin since 1985, says now is the time to step down and spend more time in his community.
“I’ve told people this is not retirement — we’re just moving to a different phase of our lives,” Smithee said. “We will be volunteering locally to try to help people and to work in the community, and I’ll continue with my law practice. The good thing is I get to spend more time with my children and grandchildren, and I think that’s something we’re all looking forward to.”
