Man convicted of shooting teen in Goddard parking lot

WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) – A man accused of shooting a teenager outside the Goddard Walmart last year is being held accountable for his actions.

A Sedgwick County jury found Ruben Contreras guilty of aggravated battery in the case. He was acquitted of the attempted first-degree murder charge.

Police say in May 2024, a teen fired a gel blaster at Contreras’ daughter outside of the Walmart in Goddard. In response, prosecutors say Contreras responded with a loaded gun, shooting the teen who was in a car…
