The Wichita City Council unanimously approved an amendment Thursday night to modify the building capacity of the Crown Uptown Theatre.
The facility near Douglas and Hillside won’t see a substantial change, with approval to expand capacity from 850 to 860 people. Any more than that will require installation of a fire suppression system. Other changes to the facility would be set by fire and building code requirements.
Council member Brandon Johnson said neighbors in the area voiced their concerns, which required a compromise. In all, 34 protest petitions were received, with 19 of them from nearby properties…
