A recent incident has brought to light a new scam involving the spoofing of the Salt Lake County Sheriff’s office phone number. A local resident received a call from an individual claiming to be from the Sheriff’s office, informing them of a supposed “missed Jury Summons.” The caller then proceeded to explain various legal terms and matters, eventually demanding a sum of $2720 to avoid arrest. The resident, suspecting foul play, searched online and found that the Sheriff’s office would never request money over the phone.
