Northern Nevada Public Health (NNPH) has received a grant from the Nevada Office of Traffic Safety. The funding will support efforts to improve safety for children traveling to and from school in the Reno/Sparks area and nearby rural communities. The initiative, announced on November 7, 2025, aims to reduce transportation-related injuries among youth, especially in underserved and low-income areas where children often walk, bike, or use scooters without sufficient safety infrastructure.
The program will use several strategies. These include pedestrian and bicycle safety education, volunteer-led ‘walking school buses,’ and public awareness campaigns.
