EDITORIAL: Gun violence triggers awareness of fragmented society

The fluorescent lights of the McDonald’s burned just as bright as the laughter cascading through the parking lot as senior Caleb Quick and his friends walked through the doors. High school students from schools and churches all around the Clovis area gathered for a quick fast-food run, as was typical after youth group. Little did he know their laughter would soon be screams and what was supposed to be a quick stop before home would be his final stop. On Wednesday, April 28, 2025, 18-year-old Quick was gunned down as he exited a local McDonald’s with his friends by his side.

Since then, two minors have been charged with the premeditated murder of Quick. Allegedly, Quick provoked the young gunman due to previous actions. The teenage boy staked out the fast food restaurant and attacked Quick from behind, discharging one single shot.
