Huntsville City Council approves police patrol funding for public housing

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — The Huntsville City Council approved a contract renewal with the Huntsville Housing Authority that will fund additional police patrols in public housing communities across the city.

The $140,000 agreement covers overtime salaries for up to six officers and a supervisor dedicated to public housing neighborhoods. The team conducts regular patrols and works to build relationships with residents.

“Every year we actually provide a contract to the police department to provide what we call above-board services,” said Antonio McGinnis, Huntsville Housing Authority CEO. “We really want to have access to the police department whenever we need them most.”…
