Veterans celebrated at Loxley Civic Center (video)

LOXLEY, Ala. (WKRG) — A star-spangled celebration at the Loxley Civic Center to honor those who have served. “I went in when I was 18 years old,” said Phillip “Shorty” Tuberville. “If we didn’t go for freedom people couldn’t do what they do now.”

Hand, foot and mouth disease cases on the rise in Mobile

Veterans from all branches of service were recognized and every war and conflict requiring military action was remembered.

“I served in Desert Storm, Desert Shield, Iraqi Freedom, Iraqi Enduring Freedom, Operation New Dawn,” said Bobby “Butch” Turner who now commands the Loxley Chapter of the Disabled American Veterans Association. “I stayed a long time.”

Stories of sacrifice, loss, and of redemption all remembered and repeated.
