16-year-old charged after shootout with woman during carjacking attempt

A 16-year-old boy has been charged with taking part in a September carjacking attempt in Woodlawn that ended in a shootout, leaving both a woman and one of the alleged offenders wounded, police said.

The incident happened around 10 a.m. on September 7 in the west alley of the 6700 block of South Creiger Avenue. Chicago police said a 34-year-old woman, who was licensed to own firearms, was sitting in her green Dodge Challenger when a group of people pulled up in another vehicle, displayed guns, and tried to take her car.

The woman drew her weapon and exchanged gunfire with at least one attacker, striking one of them, a 16-year-old boy, in the chest and groin, according to a CPD report. The woman was shot in the leg during the shootout…
