Texas Tech freshman builds field goal post to help students prep for $500,000 GameDay kick

LUBBOCK, Texas – Ahead of ESPN’s College GameDay making its stop in Lubbock, one Texas Tech freshman decided to take his excitement and engineering skills to the next level.

Jace McWhirter built his own field goal post on campus to help students practice for the $500,000 Dr Pepper Tuition Challenge kick taking place during Saturday’s pregame show.

“At first I thought I could just make a business out of it,” McWhirter said. “If I build this field goal post, people could come out for like $10, kick some field goals, and get some practice in.”
