A Henderson city councilwoman finds herself on the other side of the law as a grand jury indicted her for a secret recording of a colleague’s conversation. Carrie Cox, representing Ward 3, is charged with a felony for allegedly concealing herself behind a curtain to record the private discussion of another council member, according to News 3.
The incident, which purportedly occurred on January 9, 2025, involved Councilwoman Monica Larson of Ward 2, along with two others, identified as Michael Hiltz and Richard Smith. In the indictment, Cox is accused of “willfully, unlawfully, and feloniously” invading Larson’s privacy, as per News 3. Charged with monitoring or attempt to monitor a private conversation, Cox could face one to four years in prison if convicted.
Cox’s attorney, Josh Tomsheck addressed the allegations by stating, “The beauty of our criminal justice system is that all those accused within it are presumed innocent and afforded the opportunity to defend themselves through the court process. This Indictment is very new. There is much more that will come to light throughout this process and Mrs. Cox very much looks forward to addressing these allegations through the appropriate channels in Court,” as noted by News 3.
