Illegal dumping plagues Columbus community youth center, sparking safety concerns

COLUMBUS, Ohio (WSYX) — For the past two years, the Community Learning Center on Sullivant Ave. in the Hilltop, operated by Lower Lights Ministries, has provided a safe haven for middle and high school students. “It’s a place where they can get a healthy snack right after school,” said Emmalyn Jerome, CEO of Lower Lights Ministries. “Help with their homework and just a safe space to hang out with friends.”

The space is now being compromised by suspected illegal dumpers. Security cameras captured a van dropping unwanted household items in an alley by the center’s parking lot on Tuesday night.

“I want it gone, and I wish people wouldn’t do that,” Jerome said. “It’s disrespectful.”…
