STEELTON, Pa. (WHTM) — A former Steelton Borough detective sued the police department for allegedly retaliating against her after she suffered injuries from a police K-9 in 2022.
Dory Martin, who became the department’s first female officer in 2015, claimed in a lawsuit filed last month she was completing her yearly pistol qualifications at the department’s gun range when she was “suddenly attacked” by a K-9 named Beny, who another officer did not have on a leash or muzzle, nor did he have the remote for the dog’s shock collar.
The lawsuit said the attack left her with puncture wounds, lacerations, abrasions and contusions on her left arm, as well as lost feeling in her ulnar nerve and PTSD. But when she requested work restrictions and accommodations, including no longer working with Beny, Martin said Steelton Borough Police Chief William Shaub threatened to demote her despite approving the request.
Martin is alleging disability discrimination, refusing to accommodate, disability retaliation and gender discrimination. She is seeking more than $75,000 for each count and her position back in the department…
