HORRY COUNTY, S.C. (WBTW) — A pair of recently filed lawsuits allege gross negligence and recklessness on the part of the Horry County Police Department during a 2024 high-speed pursuit that ended in a head-on crash that injured two people.
Bradley Mostowski and Lacey Shortridge, both of Marion County, filed the lawsuits in Georgetown County Common Pleas Court. Mostowski was driving a vehicle that was hit near Trinity Road on Highway 701 in Georgetown County by a Jeep Compass being pursued by an Horry County officer; Shortridge was a passenger in Mostowski’s vehicle.
According to the lawsuits, the officer, Zachary McDermott, who led the pursuit in his unmarked Ford F-150 pickup truck, was on patrol near Conway when he was notified of a white Jeep Compass that had been reported stolen. He eventually spotted the Jeep on Highway 701 headed toward Georgetown and began pursuing it…
