Day-biting mosquito that spreads Dengue and Zika detected in Milpitas

Santa Clara County authorities have reported the presence of Aedes aegypti mosquitoes in Milpitas, by the intersection of South Hillview and Los Coches. These mosquitoes are known to attack during daytime hours, and have already been active elsewhere in the county.

The County is considering spraying Milpitas neighborhoods if the mosquitoes continue being found. Meanwhile, even bug-spraying measures are not foolproof, so residents are advised to dump their standing water and keep their containers scrubbed with hot, soapy water and/or diluted bleach. Moist conditions can promote the hatching of the mosquitoes’ eggs.

Said a County alert, “Let our licensed technicians access your property to check for mosquitoes and control them as needed. Our staff is only allowed to set traps, check for mosquitoes, and control them if found.”…
