Lafayette may be far away from Washington D.C., but there are some residents who are still feeling the effects of the now longest shutdown of the federal government in history. From federal workers to those working on federal contracts, the funding pause is hitting local pocketbooks too.
As a result, Lafayette Utilities System has announced it will be suspending late fees for its customers through the end of the month.
The move came under the direction of Mayor-President Monique Boulet. “Our focus is ensuring customers facing furlough or financial hardship have a clear path forward to maintain essential utility services,” Boulet said in a press release. “LUS remains committed to being responsive in providing the stability our residents need while this situation continues.”…
