LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – As Arkansans face uncertainties of SNAP benefits due to the U.S. government shutdown, the Arkansas Hunger Relief Alliance is continuing its annual event to help with relief.
The organization is hosting its Turnip for Hunger volunteer harvest event from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, Nov. 22, at Heifer Ranch located at 55 Heifer Road in Perryville.

During the event, turnips grown by the Alliance will be harvested to be delivered to food banks across the state.
“Families across Arkansas are feeling the strain as SNAP benefits are disrupted and food pantries struggle to keep shelves stocked,” Arkansas Hunger Relief Alliance CEO Sylvia Blain said. “Turnip for Hunger is more than just a volunteer event — it’s a chance for people of all ages, from families to corporate teams to school groups, to roll up their sleeves and make a real difference.”
