Younger generation needs to carry on fight for freedom, progress | Opinion

At the age of 79, I did not expect to be doing this, but I’m going to protest rallies and speaking out against the direction the current administration is attempting to take the country.

I don’t know how much time I have left on this planet, and I don’t believe the changes will affect my generation, unless the current administration impacts Social Security. So why would I do this? I’m concerned my young friends and future generations won’t have the privilege of growing up in the country I did.

Our speech was and is protected by the First Amendment, even when we spoke out against our involvement in the Vietnam War. The right to protest was protected. If students Mahmoud Kahlil and Rumeysa Ozturk have no freedom of speech in this country, I’m afraid your freedom of speech also will be limited…
