FDNY Mourns Loss of Firefighter Patrick Brady, Who Died in the Line of Duty

New York City is reeling from the tragic loss of Firefighter Patrick Brady, a dedicated 11-year veteran of the Fire Department of the City of New York (FDNY), who passed away Saturday while battling an apartment fire in Brooklyn. Commissioner Robert S. Tucker and Mayor Eric Adams announced the solemn news, expressing profound sorrow for a man described as having “firefighting in his blood.”

Firefighter Brady, 42, was on the roof of an all-hands apartment fire when he suffered a medical episode, going into cardiac arrest. Fellow FDNY members and emergency medical services personnel immediately rendered aid at the scene before rushing him to Brookdale University Hospital Medical Center, where he ultimately succumbed.

Commissioner Tucker stated, “The entire FDNY is heartbroken over the loss of Firefighter Patrick Brady. Firefighter Brady was a dedicated public servant, and firefighting was in his blood. We are thinking of his family, friends, and fellow members as we join them in mourning this immense loss.”

A Queens resident, Firefighter Brady is survived by his wife, Kara, and his two brothers, Jimmy and Brian, who are also proud members of the FDNY. His commitment to public service ran deep, with numerous cousins and uncles also serving in the department.

Mayor Adams echoed the sentiment, saying, “Firefighter Brady came from a family of firefighters – all dedicated to protecting the lives of their fellow New Yorkers. I would like to express my deepest sympathy to his wife, Kara, and his entire family during this difficult time.”

Details regarding the nature of the fire, other than it being a 5-alarm blaze, were not disclosed during a news conference.

Firefighter Brady marks the 1,163rd member of the FDNY to die in the line of duty. Funeral arrangements are pending. In a gesture of remembrance and respect, FDNY members will place purple and black bunting on the exterior of FDNY Ladder 120, where Firefighter Patrick Brady served, on Sunday.
