A Cork family is reeling from the sudden loss of their beloved mother, Seodhna Deasy, who tragically passed away in Washington D.C. last month while on vacation. Now, a fundraising campaign is underway to bring her home and provide her with a dignified farewell.
Ms. Deasy, a devoted mother of three, fell critically ill during her visit to the United States and spent three weeks in the Intensive Care Unit before her untimely death.
Her family expressed their profound grief, sharing a heartfelt tribute on social media. “We couldn’t have asked for a better mother,” her son wrote, sharing a poignant selfie and adding, “I’m still lost for words…
We’ll always love you forever. I’m absolutely heartbroken.
I don’t know what we’ll do without you. Rest easy, my queen.
We love you so much.”
To facilitate her repatriation and funeral expenses, Ms. Deasy’s family has launched a GoFundMe campaign.
The family’s message on the fundraising page states, “Hello, we are raising funds towards the cost of our beautiful Seodhna’s funeral. Seodhna was a mother, daughter, sister and friend to many.
She will be hugely missed by all who knew and loved her.”
The message further explained that Seodhna’s daughter, Kayleigh, and father, Roger, were by her side for the three weeks she was in critical care. “The donations raised will go towards the dignified send off that Seodhna deserves and we would appreciate any help possible to make this happen please. Thank you for your generosity,” the family added.
The community has responded with overwhelming generosity, with the GoFundMe campaign quickly surpassing its €7,000 target, having already raised over €13,000 within days of its launch.
Seodhna Deasy’s wake will be held at Sullivan’s Funeral Home, Turners Cross on Monday from 5pm to 6pm. A Requiem Mass will take place on Tuesday, November 11, at Christ King Church, Turners Cross, followed by a cremation service at The Island Crematorium, Ringaskiddy.
