Inside KU’s decision making in the final minutes vs. Arizona

TUCSON, Arizona — Lance Leipold had a decision to make as the clock hit 2:39 to play in Arizona Stadium. KU led by three points. The Jayhawks had the ball, but Jalon Daniels had just been stopped short of a first down and the Jayhawks faced a fourth and two.

But, as Lance Leipold looked to make his decision, there was news that Jalon Daniels was not going to be available for the 4th down, regardless of what KU did.

“We couldn’t put Jalon [Daniels] back in the game. We couldn’t buy him back into the game with a timeout,” Leipold said. “I needed a clarification on the rule. Since the officials took them out [Daniels couldn’t return on that play]. It’s not like if the helmet comes off, we can use a timeout to put them back in the game. With an injury, we could not.”…
