Police: Schodack man tried to steal copper from National Grid substation in New Scotland

NEW SCOTLAND — A Schodack man has been charged with multiple felonies after allegedly trying to steal more than $20,000 worth of copper wire and parts from a National Grid substation during a failed late-night heist.

The 39-year-old has been charged with third-degree burglary, second-degree criminal mischief and third-degree attempted grand larceny, all felonies, as well as possession of burglar’s tools, a misdemeanor, according to a news release from the Albany County Sheriff’s Office.

The alleged attempted robbery was reported to the Albany County Sheriff’s Office by National Grid shortly after midnight on Friday…
