WEATHER AWARE: Monday and Tuesday morning for freezing temperatures and potentially record breaking cold! Take action to protect pets and plants as temperatures will be below freezing for several hours.
Tonight: Becoming much colder through the evening and overnight. Gusty winds from the NW at 15 MPH. Freeze Warning is in effect for all counties until 9 AM Monday morning as temperatures will reach and fall below freezing for several hours. These temperatures pose a large risk to plants and pets, take them inside! Low temperatures will be in the mid 20s to freezing area wide.
Monday: Wind chills in the morning will be in the teens and low 20s as you head out to work and school. You’ll want to bundle up all day as feels like temps won’t make it much farther than the middle 30s. Plenty of sunshine for the day, but that is the extent of the nice weather for tomorrow. It will feel more like January than November, with highs in the low to mid 40s. The all time coldest high temperature record in Birmingham could be broken.
Flurries?: Maybe! Monday afternoon a band of snow looks to traverse eastern Tennessee in the higher terrain toward north Georgia. As that happens, a flurry or two will be possible in far northeast Alabama, possibly making it into our farthest NE counties. It’s not a great chance, but models continue to suggest it. No accumulations will occur, and most flakes will likely evaporate before making it to the ground.
Veterans Day: Starting out FRIGID, with temperatures approaching record cold once again in the low 20s area wide. A freeze watch is in place for early Tuesday morning. Several hours well below freezing will promote a moderate freeze. Cover outside spigots! Sunshine and decreasing winds will mark a noticeable improvement in how it feels outside, and high temperatures will be in the mid to low 50s. It will be chilly, but not too bad for parades and festivities.
Midweek Warm Up: By Wednesday, we will warm up significantly. Early Wednesday morning should be the last potential bout of frost, with temps in the mid to upper 30s. Afternoon highs will be in the mid to upper 60s, and we continue warming into the mid 70s by the end of the work week.
Rain Next Weekend?: Our next chance of rain may come next week as models like a trough pushing into the region late next week into the weekend. As of now, the best chance of rain looks to occur Sunday. We could certainly use it, as drought conditions are still widespread. Stay tuned for the latest!…
