Sherman Man Charged with DWI, Leaving Scene of Crash

A Sherman man faces several charges after he allegedly left the scene of a crash in the village early Saturday. Chautauqua County Sheriff’s deputies responded to the area of West Main Street at about 1:45 AM for a report of a vehicle that drove off the road and caused damage to multiple items. Deputies say the vehicle fled the scene, but was later found. An investigation found that 36-year-old Justin Whitehead was allegedly driving the vehicle while intoxicated. Whitehead was taken into custody and charged with moving from lane unsafely, speed not reasonable and prudent, leaving the scene of a property damage accident, expired inspection, and DWI.
