‘Stop shooting’ signs placed in Grand Rapids where teens were killed

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — Dozens of signs that read “Stop shooting. We play here.” have popped up in a neighborhood where a 17-year-old was shot and killed a little over a month ago.

It’s a statement people in the neighborhood near Umatilla Street and Madison Avenue hope urges the Grand Rapids community to stop and think about the next generation.

“Kids just want something to do — and why can’t they do it in front of their home?” said Jefferson Ridgeway, the site director of Cure Violence, a community violence prevention organization.
