Gatlinburg, TN – Sections of Great Smoky Mountains National Park are shutting down Sunday evening as forecasters warn of severe weather. Park officials announced that US441/Newfound Gap Road and Roaring Fork Motor Nature Trail will close at 6 p.m. on Sunday, November 9, to protect visitors and staff from potential hazardous conditions.

According to the National Park Service, the closures come as storms are expected to bring heavy rain, strong winds, and possible flooding to the area overnight. The park will reassess road and trail conditions Monday morning, November 10, before deciding whether to reopen…
