Black Church Coalition raises funds for community members facing financial hardship

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) – The Black Church Coalition held a fundraising event Sunday to help community members struggling financially, with leaders citing increased demand following recent federal funding cuts including SNAP benefits.

The event took place at Shiloh Baptist Church, where the hymn “Blessed Assurance” filled the sanctuary as faith leaders addressed what they described as hard times in the community.

“There is a sense of hopelessness that is rising in our community, a sense of despair and so what we try to do is link people with resources,” said Marvin King, pastor of Shiloh Baptist Church, a founding member of the coalition…
