Lane Reductions on Wythe Creek Road Near Commander Shepard Starting November 11: What Local Drivers Need to Know

Starting November 11, 2025, Wythe Creek Road (Route 172) in Hampton will be reduced to one lane in each direction between Commander Shepard Boulevard and Voyager Boulevard. This change is to allow crews to install new sanitary sewer pipes as part of the Wythe Creek Road Widening Project. The lane reduction is expected to last several weeks. All lanes will be shifted toward the western side of the road to provide space for utility work.

Certain turn lanes will also be affected. The right-turn lane from westbound Commander Shepard Boulevard to northbound Wythe Creek Road will be closed. Right turns will still be possible from the main travel lane. The two left-turn lanes from eastbound Commander Shepard Boulevard will be reduced to one left-turn lane.

Single-lane closures with flagger-controlled traffic will occur north of Voyager Boulevard in both Hampton and Poquoson.
