S.F. police shoot dog, then owner, on busy downtown street

San Francisco police shot an off-leash dog and his owner on a busy stretch of Market Street near Union Square on Sunday afternoon after the dog bit a person, authorities and witnesses said.

After the shooting, the dog ran away, then returned to the scene and bit an officer in the leg, police and fire officials said.

The dog and his owner were shot around 4:30 p.m. near Market and O’Farrell streets as officers tried to detain the man and “secure the dog,” police and fire officials said…
