The Walnut Street Bridge over Jordan Creek in Springfield, just east of Kansas Expressway, has reopened. The bridge was replaced in a project that began in March 2025. MoDOT inspections found the old bridge needed replacement to improve safety, traffic flow, and flood capacity.
The project cost $3.2 million. Funding came from the Off-System Bridge (BRO) Program and local sales taxes. The new bridge includes a multi-use path on and under the structure. This path adds to Springfield’s trail network and connects the West Central Neighborhood with Downtown.
