OVERLAND PARK, Ks. (KCTV) – The first Saturday of every month, Indian Heights United Methodist Church hands out free diapers, wipes, and baby formula to those in need. It’s part of a program called Baby Grace, started by Methodist Church members in Buckner in 2006.
The program has since spread to nearly 2 dozen churches in Missouri. Emily Wagner brought it to Indian Heights over two years ago, making it the first Methodist Church in Kansas with the program. She says it started with a group of friends and fellow church members.
“There was a small group of us at the church here that was meeting on a weekly basis just talking about life and things like that,” said Wagner. “We decided we wanted to do some sort of service project. My dad is a retired Methodist pastor from Missouri, and he told us about Baby Grace and what they do. A couple of people who already had locations going came and talked to us. It blew our minds the need for diapers is not addressed by government funding. They shared stories with us that made us think our community could use this to.”
