Frances Mays is known as the familiar face around Carson Hall dining, typically seen scanning students in. But in her free time, Mays runs Health Enrichment for Low-Income Pets, an organization dedicated to taking care of Eugene’s low-income and houseless animal population.
In the city of Eugene, there are more than 3,000 people experiencing homelessness, according to the city’s website. H.E.L.P. aims to assist those individuals, as well as other low-income families, to get their pets the food and assistance they need.
“I provide seven to 14 days’ worth of food to the unhoused and the low-income community and any travelers that may be passing through as well,” Mays said. “I have tried to provide resources for vaccination, low-cost spay and neuter, vet care, any of the above. Anything that I can help with and that I can research, I will do.”…
