Snow showers come to an end overnight with frigid, close-to-record breaking temperatures.
- Tonight: (40%): Very cold with additional scattered snow showers, especially over the higher elevations. Low: 23° (Record low: 22°/1913).
- Tomorrow: Plenty of sunshine, but it remains chilly. High: 44°.
- Wednesday: Not as cold with more sun. Breezy at times. High: 59°.
We will continue to see some scattered snow showers throughout the evening with the most impactful accumulations across the higher elevations, especially in the Smokies. Another 4-6″ is possible above 5000ft. For the Valley, Plateau, SE Kentucky, a quick covering to perhaps an inch is possible. Not everyone sees accumulations. It tapers off as we approach the midnight hour.
Tonight will be the coldest night of the week and the coldest night since the beginning of last March. A “hard freeze” is expected which will end the growing season. Overnight lows will tumble to the low-to-mid 20s. The forecast low for Knoxville is 23° which will be close to the record low for the date which is 22° set in 1913. While Tuesday morning will be colder than Monday morning, calmer winds should hopefully result less of a “bite” from the cold air mass.
Plenty of sunshine is expected on Tuesday. It will be quite chilly if you are headed to the Veterans Day parade in downtown Knoxville. Temperatures at the start of the parade will be in the low 30s before climbing to the upper 30s towards the end. Afternoon highs will reach the mid 40s…
